THE WINDOW
inspired by Aspa Stassinopoulou’s, Untitled
The window Ι rushed to open
Revealed eyes I did not want to see
Eyes that have known the pain and the end
Eyes that yelled I desire nothing and I am not alive.
Τhere was no shutter to close
And the eyelids on the children’s eyes
Never let the dreams come in
Never hid the sun not to get burnt.
How do I send them my dreams
How do I show them the streets I’ve seen
How do I yell so that they can hear me
When the distance is so long.
A window separates our lives
Our joys are a smile away
It’s the glance they never threw on earth
When courage and sorrow had a price.
Eyes I cannot see
Wide open and glum
Children’s eyes that have already set
Before they had a chance to live like children.
