The two works shown by Ariane Loze in Modern Love or Love in the Age of Cold Intimacies use subtle humour to interrogate the awkward balance between our personality and artificial intelligence. Our Cold Loves focuses on the field of online dating applications. Different stereotypical characters, impersonated by the artist, exchange messages in an attempt to attract partners. Among them, an algorithm, which is also played by Loze, quantifies the factors that impact sexual attraction. The work explores the secret mechanisms that power dating apps and the illusion of love on which their operation relies. As part of the Modern Love or Love in the Age of Cold Intimacies exhibition, Ariane Loze will hold a performance whereby the audience will be invited to repeat the work’s dialogues, in a role play intended to create awkward interactions in the physical reality.
