Margaret Salmon adapts techniques drawn from the cinematic avant-garde, such as Cinema Vérité and Italian Neo-Realism, to capture the subtle grandeur of the imperceptible, ephemeral emotions of everyday life, such as affection, trust, and love. I you me we us portrays visual representations of warmth, empathy, care, kinship, and tenderness. Salmon’s work is a poignant reminder that, in contrast to the disembodied world of the Internet, the most important component of love, affection, care and kinship is touch and the human presence. Her work can be seen as an antidote to commodified representations of sex that are often entirely divorced from the reality of our bodies and the sexual relationships we cultivate with others.
