In If you didn’t choose A, you will probably choose B, we see a woman going about her everyday activities, while the personified algorithms of her online apps, all wearing her own face, question or confirm her statements, anticipate her moves, and hazard alternative suggestions taking into account the goods she has ordered, the series she has watched, the decisions she has made in her love life. Loze examines the rule of algorithms and artificial intelligence through the universally interconnected processing of our personal data.
Ariane Loze has developed a one-person working method for the production of audiovisual works that she calls MÔWN-Movies on my own, whereby she is solely in charge of the script, photography, directing and acting. This way, she disrupts conventional cinematic narrative codes, implying that, although narcissism is a prevalent behaviour, we are not as different as we think. Through the editing of the images she develops a relation between two (or more) characters and the architecture. The videos of Ariane Loze put the spectator in the active role of creating his/her own story out of the basic principles of film editing: shot and counter-shot, the presumed continuity of movement, and the psychological suggestion of a narrative. The filming of these videos has been made public as a ongoing performance.
