On the occasion of his participation in the exhibition South by Southeast: Re-orienting the Collection at EMΣΤ and his solo exhibition at Kalfayan Gallery, artist Adrian Paci will join us at the museum for a talk on his moving-image practice. Revisiting early works and more recent projects, he will reflect on how movement, memory, waiting, and transformation have shaped his artistic journey.
Video has been central to Paci’s practice since the 1990s. His films often begin with seemingly simple situations, gestures or encounters that gradually open onto questions of migration, labour, belonging and displacement. Combining documentary elements with staged situations and poetic interventions, his moving-image works occupy a space between reality and fiction, the intimate and the political. They frequently transform ordinary experiences into reflections on larger historical and social conditions.
Adrian Paci is one of Albania’s most important and internationally recognised contemporary artists. Born in Shkodër in 1969, he lives and works in Milan. He represented Albania at the Venice Biennale in 1999 and participated again in 2005. His work has been presented in major solo exhibitions at MoMA PS1, New York; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Kunsthaus Zürich; Jeu de Paume, Paris; MAC Montréal; Museo Novecento, Florence; and MAXXI, Rome.
