PERFORMANCE FOR “WASTE (INHERITANCE)” BY JENNIFER NELSON

An action to wear my garbage from 2021

SATURDAY 19.11.2022 at 12.00

For the last 4 months Jennifer Nelson and her team, Nadia Elgazar, Vaggi Sekifou, Petros Tatsiopoulos and Nori Tsouloucha, have been working to make an entire year’s garbage wearable on Nelson’s body, as the culmination of the artist’s project at ΕΜΣΤ Waste (Inheritance). This public process has been a direct confrontation and negotiation with the material. Nelson and her team have studied it, experimented with it, and shared their findings with visitors. They used no additional materials, like glue, to make the work. This sculpture of trash must hold together with the trash itself. They also never weighed the material but have interacted with it directly with their hands and bodies. The resulting sculpture may or may not be too much for Nelson to finally carry. Come join us and find out. We welcome your presence and support as Nelson attempts to shoulder the consequences of her family’s consumer footprint from 2021.
