Οn the occasion of her solo exhibition entitled “In the Same Space”, which was presented at EMΣT (16.06-20.11.2022), photographer Eirini Vourloumis, designed and two workshops bearing the same title; one for second-generation immigrant teenagers, in collaboration with SolidarityNow, the other for addicted mothers and their children. The latter is held in collaboration with the private program of the Rehabilitation Centre 18ANO. The workshops are taking place between November 2022 – February 2023 within the framework of EMΣT’s programme Without Borders.
SECOND-GENERATION IMMIGRANT TEENAGERS
In collaboration with SolidarityNow.
Twelve teenagers aged 14-17, visited the exhibition and, with the help of Erini Vourloumis, became acquainted with the painting of Andreas Vourloumis’ her grandfather, and the artistic dialogue she developed with it.. Then, in a series of five three-hour meetings and through writing and photography exercises, they created their own dialogue with Andreas Vourloumis’ paintings, exploring both the cultural identity of Athens a well as their own cities of origin.
ADDICTED MOTHERS WITH THEIR CHILDREN
In collaboration with the closed program of the Rehabilitation Center 18ANO.
A programme whereby Eirini Vourloumis visits the places where addicted mothers stay with their children during their treatment and presents them the artistic process through which she created the works of the exhibition “In the Same Space”. The artist encourages participants to create a visual diary of their stay in the rehabilitation centre with the aim of presenting it to one of their loved ones, inside or outside the centre; what would they like to show them from their daily life, or what do they think they would like to see? What would a visual love letter look like?
Just as Vourloumis’ photography work is a process of emotional connection with her grandfather, so the process of creating the visual diary within the rehabilitation centre creates conditions and possibilities for the participant for deeper and more meaningful communication with each other, the persons who take care of them or with loved ones who at the present stage of their lives live separately.
