Exploring the Museum’s Images – Exploring My Image

EMΣΤ announces the continuation of the group art psychotherapy program that started in 2017 in collaboration with the First Psychiatric Department of the University of Athens. The contribution of art in the development of critical thinking and self-awarness, on the cultivation of self-expression, dialogue and cooperation with the Self and the Others through representative contemporary artworks, will be among the objectives of this program.
On the occasion of the current exhibition titled Modern Love (or Love in the Age of Cold Intimacies) which focuses on digital technology and the internet, their influence on modern societies and their relation to work, body and speech, participants will they have the opportunity to engage with the exhibited works but also with works they will create themselves. With the endless flow of information, constant communication, the construction of the digital self, we often fail to be present in the here and now. How do we perceive reality, ourselves and others within it?
Twelve two-hour sessions of group art psychotherapy will be realized at the Museum. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss about artworks that are exhibited in Modern Love. Afterwards, taking as a starting point the emerging psychological state they will create their own works, the exploration of which will constitute the vehicle for further personal exploration.
The program is designed and implemented by Aphrodite Pantagoutsou (Psychiatric Occupational Therapist, Art Psychotherapist and Supervisor in the First Psychiatric Department of the University of Athens, Aiginition Hospital) and Elisabeth Ioannides, EMΣT Education Curator-Art Psychotherapist).
EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL
The program will be realized from February 24 until May 26, 2023 every Friday from 14.30 until 16.30 for a closed group of 8-10 people (April 14 and 21 are exempt).
An open call is realized for the selection of the group members. Interviews will be held with the coordinators on Monday January 30th and Tuesday January 31st from 9.30 until 14.00 by appointment.
The program will be held in Greek.
Participation cost: 150 euro in 3 installments or 120 euro one-off (art materials are included)
