Saturday 20 December
Specially curated programme of four screenings:
EMΣT presents the first of three events that will take place as part of the Public Programme of the exhibition Sea Garden. On Saturday, December 20th, at 17:00, a specially curated programme of four screenings will be presented. The films Daphne was a torso ending in leaves (2023) by Catriona Gallagher, Solar Noon (2022) by Fredj Moussa, as well as Sprout’s of a Dragon’s Teeth (2023) and Seven Types of Dust (2024) by Danae Io expand the conceptual landscapes of Sea Garden. Together, they compose a multilayered narrative that expands the exhibition’s thematic concerns about the field of moving image. Nature as clothing and as a refuge for vulnerable bodies, landscapes shaped by human intervention and its role in the construction of national identities shape the trajectories of the evening.

On Sunday, 11 January at 17:00, Anastenária (1985) by Margaret Raspé will be presented as part of the Public Programme of the exhibition Sea Garden. In 1978, Margaret Raspé was first introduced to the firewalking ritual of the Anastenarides, Christian communities in Northern Greece who celebrate the name day of Saints Constantine and Helene through a firewalking ceremony. Between 1978 and 1985, Raspé spent extended periods in Thessaloniki and Lagadas documenting this ritual, observing both women and men as they walked across burning coals. Reflecting her fascination with energy as both a metaphysical and ecological force, Anastenária – Das Fest der Feuerläufer von Lagadás presents a documentary portrait of the Anastenarides community as they prepare for and perform the fiery dance.
The film will be screened in German, with English subtitles, and will be introduced by the curators, Danai Giannoglou and Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou.

The work combines personal testimony with filmic material from trap cameras, three-dimensional models, botanical samples, and the results of archival research, Its aim is to document the ghosts of state violence and the processes of ecological erasure in Prespa, while highlighting the entanglements between nature, culture, and technology at the border.
Stefanos Levidis is a spatial and visual researcher, and is the co-founder and co-director of Forensic Architecture Initiative Athens (FAIA). Stefanos has been working with Forensic Architecture and Forensis since 2016, overseeing the agencies’ work on borders and migration and holds a PhD from the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths, titled Border Natures: The Environment as Weapon at the Edges of Greece.
