Jannis Kounellis, March 23, 1936 – February 16, 2017
It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of one of the most inspirational artists of our times. An artist for whοm the title of a “poet” has been most appropriate. His work reinstates the principles of ancient Greek culture and Renaissance to modern times, seen under the light and magnitude of the industrial revolution. Although the human figure rarely appeared in Jannis Kounellis’ oeuvre, he himself focused on the human meter, offering us a deeply humanitarian work, permeated with values and dramatic elements, like those of the revolution, of freedom, of the dialectic, of the economy of media and materials, which make it universal.
