ΕΜΣΤ invites you to an alternative guided tour of its collection based on seminal texts of modern feminist theory. The curators of ΕΜΣΤ together with the researchers of the Centre of New Media and Feminist Public Practices (Athens and Volos) will provide a guided tour of the Museum collection and will analyse the work of specific artists as well as the history of contemporary Greek art through the essays of publication Feminist Theories, Aesthetic Practices and Globalised Technologies published by Thessaly University Editions. The tour will adopt alternative approaches to important works in the collection and will propose new readings of works by Aspa Stassinopoulou, Niki Kanagini, Nan Goldin, Köken Ergün, Mona Hatoum or Vlassis Kaniaris, based on texts in the publication written by Judith Butler, Sylvia Federici, Donna Haraway, Sarah Ahmed, Athina Athanasiou, Elena Tzelepi, Christina Grammatikopoulou, Angela Dimitrakaki and others.
“The Tools and the House” tour is the first in a series of thematic and performative tours by ΕΜΣΤ whose aim is to stir the debate on key fields of knowledge and to highlight hidden aspects of the collection. Moreover, ΕΜΣΤ is launching its new program “Saturdays at EMΣΤ”, with events, talks, panels and art activities held on selected Saturdays of each month.
A discussion will follow and participants will be offered a complimentary copy of the volume.
The event is named after Audre Lorde’s essay The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House.
