In the large-scale Manuscripts dating from 1984 to 1986, Niki Kanagini incorporates entire sections of Liberty fabrics or wallpapers that she paints on using oil-based enamels. As part of her process, these painted interventions trace the floral motifs to give the impression that they are springing from the surface of the fabrics themselves, while the addition of textual elements at other points generates a singular visual form of non-readable artistic writing.
