{"id":96815,"date":"2026-09-17T16:02:19","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T16:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.emst.gr\/?p=96815"},"modified":"2026-09-17T16:13:49","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T16:13:49","slug":"cinefix-current","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/events-en\/cinefix-current","title":{"rendered":"C\u0399\u039d\u0395FIX #CURRENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CineFIX, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4\u2019s art-house cinema, kicks off the new season with a programme dedicated to contemporary documentary filmmaking. <em>\u03a1\u0395\u03a5\u039c\u0391 \/ CURRENT<\/em>, curated by film programmer and visual artist Antigoni Papantoni, takes centre stage\u00a0 from September through to December, bringing together films that explore the documentary image as something far more than a record of the past. Here, the image becomes a living force\u2014one capable of reshaping memory, engaging with politics and transforming the world around us.<\/p>\n<p>In dialogue with \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4\u2019s collection exhibition <i>South by Southeast<\/i>, among other touchstones, <i>\u03a1\u0395\u03a5\u039c\u0391 \/ CURRENT<\/i> turns its lens towards the Mediterranean, the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa, approaching them not as fixed geographical or cultural entities, but as fluid spaces continually reshaped by diverse encounters, exchanges and historical entanglements. Several of the films are having their Greek premiere at \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4. Together, they explore how personal memories, archives and lived experiences intersect with broader social, political and ecological dynamics. The documentary thus becomes not only a means of recording reality, but also a way of observing the processes through which reality changes and acquires new meanings.<\/p>\n<p>The programme opens on Thursday, 24 September, on the Museum Rooftop Terrace, with the award-winning documentary <i>Fire of Love<\/i> (2022), directed by Sara Dosa. Following the opening screening, the programme will continue with screenings on two Sundays each month in the Screening Room, on the Museum Mezzanine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Antigoni Papantoni (Athens, 1987) is a cultural producer, curator of programmes for international film organisations and visual artist. She graduated from the Vevey School of Photography in Switzerland and studied Computer Science and Film Theory &amp; Aesthetics.<\/p>\n<p>She has curated film programmes and screenings for international and Greek cultural organisations and collaborates with festivals and film organisations, including IDFA \u2013 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam<b>, <\/b>Visions du R\u00e9el \u2013 International Film Festival Nyon in Switzerland<b>, <\/b>FIFDH \u2013 International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Geneva, Qumra of the Doha Film Institute, an international incubator for the development of film projects from the Middle East and North Africa, Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival<b>.<\/b> She has worked for Greek film\u00a0 production company Heretic and CIRCLE \u2013 Women Doc Accelerator, an international documentary workshop.
