With deep sadness we bid farewell to Anna Kafetsi, art historian, curator and Founding Director of our museum from 2000-2014.\u00a0 The contribution of Anna Kafetsi was pivotal to the development of the history of modern and contemporary art, curatorial practice, and cultural institutions in Greece. Through her work and intellectual vision, she fundamentally shaped the way we understand contemporary art today, as well as the public role of its institutions.<\/p>\n

Kafetsi, a Doctor of Philosophy\/Aesthetics (Paris Panthe\u0301on-Sorbonne), was the founding director (2000-2014) of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (\u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4) and a former curator for the 20th<\/sup>century Collections at the National Gallery, Athens (1983-1999). From 2016 till 2026 she was the director of annexM Visual Arts Center at Megaron \u2013 The Athens Concert Hall. She has curated numerous landmark exhibitions including \u201cMetamorphoses of the Modern-The Greek experience\u201d, National Gallery 1992; \u201cRussian Avant-Garde \u2013 The G. Costakis Collection\u201d, National Gallery 1995; \u201cSynopsis 1-3 (Communications, Theologies, Testimonies)\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2000-2003; \u201cTranscultures\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2004; \u201cVideographies \u2013 The first decades\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2005; \u201cThe Grand Promenade\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2006; \u201cTransexperiences\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 \/ \u201c798 Space\u201d, Beijing 2008; \u201c\u0397eart in Heart\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2008; \u201cPolitics of Art, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2010; \u201cSonic Time, speech-sound-silence\u201d, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 2012; \u201cThe Garden sees\u201d, annexM 2017; the trilogy \u201cThe unwritten library\u201d (The last reader <\/em>part I, After<\/em> Babel <\/em>part II), annexM 2018-2019; as well as solo shows by artists Konstantinos Parthenis, Theodoros Stamos, Vlassis Caniaris, Yannis Tsarouchis, Chen Zhen, Jannis Kounellis, Kimsooja, Shirin Neshat, Y. Z. Kami, Young-hae Chang Heavy Industries, Yang Fudong, Gulsun Karamustafa, \u039caaria Wirkkala, Carlos Garaicoa, Dilek Winchester, Andrea Bowers, Georgios Xenos among others.
