THE AFTERLIFE OF ARTWORKS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4\u2019s public programme of which focuses, among other things, on the management and care-taking of art works and their legal and professional aspects, the Museum is organising one-day conference entitled <em>Artists\u2019 Estates. The Afterlife of Artworks.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The management of an artist\u2019s tangible and intangible heritage is inextricably intertwined with the work of museums, history of art as well as the art market. Especially as regards the legacy of contemporary artists, issues of care, management, selection, inclusion and promotion of its unappreciated aspects are of key importance.<\/p>\n<p>How does an artwork remain \u201calive\u201d? What is the legal framework for the protection, management and promotion of artworks by deceased artists? What does the phrase \u201cArtist\u2019s Estate\u201d entail, and what is its role in the private and public spheres? What are the challenges as regards the preservation of an artist\u2019s legacy in terms of management, research and curation?<\/p>\n<p>With a view to establishing critical ground for dialogue, \u0395\u039c\u03a3\u03a4 is bringing together a number of art professionals, as well as specialists from other disciplines, to discuss the legal, institutional, social, and cultural aspects of the protection, management and promotion of an artist\u2019s legacy. The conference will focus on the legal framework for the protection of artworks by deceased artists and on the existing tools and practices for their management and promotion. It will also deal with the multidimensional role of recent initiatives in Greece and abroad as regards the preservation of contemporary artists\u2019 artworks. It will explore issues of curatorial promotion, artistic use and appropriation of artistic legacy. How is the notion of \u201ccare\u201d redefined in the context of artistic legacy management and promotion, especially in relation to less prominent or even under-recognised artists?
