Laura Cemin Two bodies embrace, each tuning into the other\u2019s internal rhythm. A sense of warmth, differing from touch to touch, from body to body. In Between. The warmth<\/em> is a work that derived from an action performed by Laura Cemin in 2017. She hugged her loved ones in order to get over the unease with intimacy she had felt since her childhood and to restore a physical relationship with them. Each hug lasted ten seconds \u2013 as long as the timer on the camera that recorded it. The feel of each body, its texture and temperature evoked a different material for the artist, exhibited here next to the respective photograph. The static quality of the photographs imbues the embracing bodies with a sculptural dimension. In 2020, after the first lockdown was lifted and as soon as she was able to see her friends and family again, she repeated the process. The desire for intimacy had become a universal demand.<\/p>\n Laura Cemin\u2019s work in performance, photography and installation examines relationships, encounters and interactions between people and bodies, and how technology affects social relations. Her practice focuses on understanding movement in relation to language, on searching the poetics in everyday gestures, but also on repetition, humour and absurdity. She is interested in the intersections and overlaps between language and movement and how verbal language, with its metaphors and rhetoric, shapes our movement, physical interaction and our relationships more generally.<\/p>\n \u0392iography<\/p>\n Laura Cemin was born in Italy in 1992. She lives and works in Tallinn and Helsinki.\u00a0 Cemin completed her MFA at Ume\u00e5 Academy of Fine Arts (SE) in 2019. She has performed in several venues, festivals and exhibitions in Europe.
