



{"id":8140,"date":"2011-03-29T08:01:07","date_gmt":"2011-03-29T08:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.emst.gr\/?p=8140"},"modified":"2021-08-31T12:09:05","modified_gmt":"2021-08-31T12:09:05","slug":"marianne-strapatsakis-invisible-places-the-vast-white-2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/exhibitions-en\/marianne-strapatsakis-invisible-places-the-vast-white-2008","title":{"rendered":"Marianne Strapatsakis &#8211; Invisible Places \/ The Vast White"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opening up the series <em>Every Month <\/em>to important works by Greek Artists outside of its collection, \u0395\u039cST will inaugurate on the 29th of March the video installation <em>Invisible Places \/ The Vast White<\/em>, 2008 by Marianne Strapatsakis.<\/p>\n<p>Marianne Strapatsakis\u2019 work <em>Invisible Places \/ The Vast White<\/em>, 2008 completes and summarizes the Birth-Life-Death trilogy that begun two decades earlier, in 1989, with the video installation <em>The Phantasms of the Mediterranean or The Reflections of the Past <\/em>and continued with <em>Secret Passages \/ Lavrion<\/em>, 1997. With these three immersive video installations the artist is dealing with primal questions, drawing from the philosophical thought of Heraclitus and ancient Greece.<\/p>\n<p>The three screens of the installation are dominated by a white clad female figure played by the German actress Katharina Thalbach. Initially focusing on the face, the video presents her through a sequence of emotional and bodily states, like childbirth pains, pleasure, anger and agony while at the same time, the two adjunct screens display images that link those human passions to the life cycles of animal and plant life and also to geological and meteorological phenomena.
