



{"id":67558,"date":"2020-09-20T09:07:46","date_gmt":"2020-09-20T09:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.emst.gr\/?p=67558"},"modified":"2021-08-09T05:01:00","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T05:01:00","slug":"theorimata-2-on-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/home-en\/theorimata-2-on-history","title":{"rendered":"Theorimata 2: On History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Theorimata<\/em><em>,<\/em>\u00a0the Greek Section of the International Association of Art Critics, AICA International, is presented for the second time at the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST), from October 1 until November 1, 2020 in the EMST Temporary Exhibitions Space (-1).<\/p>\n<p>The first exhibition was presented in 2018 with the aim to become a biennial event, providing the chance to curators, critics, art history scholars, and also artists to converse, collaborate and intervene in the artistic field; the theme of \u201cTheorimata\u201d will be differentiated each time, focusing on the characteristics and major issues of each period.<\/p>\n<p>For the exhibition <em>Theorimata 2: On History<\/em>, 25 curators, scholars and art critics, members of the Greek Section of AICA, propose 56 artists who, with History as their axis, promote the function of art as an alternative educational tool and a means of dynamically intervening in the social fabric.<\/p>\n<p>The idea that the knowledge of the past is an aid to the interpretation of the present and a guide to the future, asserted by Thucydides in his first book on the History of the Peloponnesian War, runs through the exhibition in which installations, constructions, sculptures, photographs, paintings, artists\u2019 books, drawings, videos and happenings are presented.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual catalogue (in Greek and English) with introductory texts by Bia Papadopoulou and Emmanuel Mavrommatis, texts by the curators, photographs of the works and biographies of both the curators and artists.<\/p>\n<p>The collective volume\u00a0<em>Kritiki+Techni (Criticism+Art) Vol. 6: Contemporary Art and the Archive: Archival Collections, Artistic Practices, Reflections <\/em>(edited by Charis Kanellopoulou) will also be published.<\/p>\n<p>Events and Conferences in the context of the exhibition:<\/p>\n<p><u>Events<\/u> <u>and Conferences will take place provided conditions permit, respecting all rules and measures for the safety of the public.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Events:<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Filippos Vasileiou<br \/>\nEleni Tzirtzilaki<\/p>\n<p>Conferences<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>A conference entitled <em>Digital Art and History<\/em> will take place at the auditorium within the exhibition space (-1) (organization AICA Hellas, coordination and opening statement: Dr. Faye Tzanetoulakou, History of Art).<\/p>\n<p>A conference on the <em>Honorary Volume for Professor Miltiadis M. Papanikolaou<\/em> will be held at the auditorium within the exhibition space (-1). Publication\u2019s prologue: Emmanuel Mavrommatis, Vanias Publications, Thessaloniki, 770 pages. The volume includes 33 studies by students and associates of Professor M. M. Papanikolaou on issues in the fields of Art History and Theory and Cultural institutions, Volume Editor: Maria D. Papanikolaou taught History of Art for approximately 40 years at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and other universities across the nation. He served as the Chairman of the History and Archaeology Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
