{"id":10204,"date":"2010-06-24T10:51:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-24T10:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.emst.gr\/?p=10204"},"modified":"2021-10-05T07:42:18","modified_gmt":"2021-10-05T07:42:18","slug":"athanasios-argianas-the-length-of-a-strand-of-your-hair-of-the-width-of-your-arms-unfolded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.emst.gr\/en\/exhibitions-en\/athanasios-argianas-the-length-of-a-strand-of-your-hair-of-the-width-of-your-arms-unfolded","title":{"rendered":"Athanasios Argianas &#8211; The Length Of A Strand Of Your Hair, Of The Width Of Your Arms, Unfolded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u039fn the 24th of June, \u0395\u039cST is inaugurating the new work <em>The Length Of A Strand Of Your Hair, Of The Width Of Your Arms, Unfolded <\/em>by Athanasios Argianas in the framework of the series EMST Commissions 2010, new works commissioned by the museum for the Project Room realized with the kind support of Bombay Sapphire gin.<\/p>\n<p>Athanasios Argianas uses different artistic mediums and creates works that examine the relationship between visual and music language. Many of his works refer to non-linear time, memory and the way we process and translate information.<\/p>\n<p>The work entitled <em>The Length Of A Strand Of Your Hair, Of The Width Of Your Arms, Unfolded <\/em>is an installation that consists of two small copper-brass-silver mobiles (Unstable Objects) modeled after tree branches and hung in the middle of the space. These sculptures interrupt two projections, which in turn project their shadows on the projection screens. The projection itself is then interrupted at intervals, when a man&#8217;s shadow walks in the light and reads out a text from a piece of paper, written by the artist himself. Three other pieces made of gilt branches and paper, are also hovering in between the other sculptures. All sculptural elements are suspended in their place by one single chain that ends in a cast. The weight of that cast is holding the whole installation in place, creating a form that resembles a constellation. The arborescent element as well as the piece of paper, appears in different parts of the work, while the text that the man reads offers a key for understanding the work.
