A CONVERSATION WITH THE FELLOWS OF THE ARCAthens PROGRAMME

MONDAY 31.10.2022 at 18.30

The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (ΕΜΣΤ) is diversifying its collaborations with public and independent bodies from Greece and abroad and is hosting a conversation between the Fellows of the ARCAthens “Fall 2022 Athens Residency” programme, the curator of EMΣΤ Ms Daphne Vitali and independent curator and ARCAthens Advisor Ms Marina Fokidis.

ARCAthens is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to art. Based in New York and Athens, ARCAthens offers artists and curators the opportunity to be immersed in the artistic communities of the two cities while creating networks of dialogue and interaction between art professionals from all over the world.

The Fellows of the ARCAthens “Fall 2022 Athens Residency” programme are Dr. Anita Bateman, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, who specializes in the art of the African diaspora and Mr. Assaf Hinden, an artist currently based in Tel Aviv who works mainly with photography and installations.

Dr. Bateman’s groundbreaking work on East African photography and strong background in contemporary art contributes a unique dimension to the multidisciplinary dialogue of the arts community in Athens.

As Assaf Hinden points out: “My works explore different elements from the past which comment on a contemporary unstable present. They usually involve backstories and historical events into which I intervene and comment on with my work, while creating different dialogues: between the past and the present, between facts and speculations.”

The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (ΕΜΣΤ) supports the development of international collaborative networks and aims at creating new fellowship programmes abroad for Greek artists and art professionals as well as hosting residencies in Athens, a city which is progressively becoming a vibrant cultural hub in the broader geopolitical area.
