On the occasion of his upcoming TEDxAthens talk on 2nd June 2018 at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, visual artist and photographer Benjamin Von Wong presents a series of hyper-realistic photographs that focuses on the current social and environmental issues by creating images that aim to raise awareness and inspire the viewers.  He uses the power of this photographs and social media as a starting point for dialogue and reflection. The three topics presented in the exhibition are related to the environmental impact of the fashion industry, the disposal of electronic waste as well as the excessive use of plastic in everyday life.

At the same time, through a series of videos he unveils the research, design process and special effects behind his photographs that people often mistake as to be a result of digital editing.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 19th May until 9th June 2018.

Collaboration EMST – TEDxAthens

The TEDxAthens team is pleased to welcome the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (EMST) as a programming partner in the 2018 event. In this inaugural collaboration a number of events will take place, commencing with the opening of the photographic exhibition by photographer and TEDxAthens 2018 speaker, Benjamin Von Wong, in the foyer of the National Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday the 19th of May. Benjamin Von Wong, whose work focuses in driving conversation on social and environmental issues, creates hyper-realistic images aiming to raise public awareness. The exhibition will last from the 19th of May until the 9th of June 2018.

In the Alternative Stage of TEDxAthens on the 2nd of June 2018 the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (EMST) will present the interactive art project Face Forward… into my home which begun in 2017 and was implemented by the Museum with the support of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and funded by the European Commission. Face Forward… into my home focuses on the stories of people who have been forced to leave their homelands and are rebuilding their life in Greece. Inspired by a selection of contemporary artworks from the Museum’s collection, the personal stories of 20 participants have been recorded. These stories, along with their respective photographic portraits by photographer Ioannis Vastardis, were presented at EMST in November 2017. Face Forward… into my home, in which 20 refugees and asylum-seekers who live in Athens supported by the ESTIA program participated, will continue in 2018 in other cities in Greece and abroad. After the presentation of the project, a conversation with participants and exhibition contributors will take place.
