Greek artist George Sapountzis at the central international exhibition VIVA ARTE VIVA of the 57th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia
George Sapountzis is one of the chosen artists that will participate in the central international exhibition Viva Arte Viva curated by Christine Macel, director of 57th Venice Biennale.
George Sapountzis creates multimedia art pieces at public and private spaces, inspired by public monuments, everyday images and objects that reflect some aspect of collective and personal memory. In the core of his works we can find sculptural installations, using leaves and aluminum rods, colorful cloths, pins, knots and straps as (craft) materials. All these share some specific characteristics: they are light, elastic and flexible.
Viva Arte Viva exhibition at the Central Pavilion to Giardini and Corderie of Arsenale, is organized by Christine Macel, who claims among other things that “it was designed with artists, by artists and for artists”. 120 artists were invited to participate in the main exhibition of the 57th Venice Biennale, 103 of which were selected for the first time.
